1000dpi vs. 4000dpi


This is the 1000 vs 4000 example. Both version of this image were scanned in from the same source material - the same slide. They were also scanned in on the same day, using the same software. The only difference is the resolution they were scaned in at.

First, so you can see what the image is, we present the original image. It was taken at a hospital in Zaire, in the late 1970's.



Now, here is a section of the first image blown up. 'Manoevres' means 'workers' - in this case, these are the nametags for the manual laborers at the hospital. Even at 1000dpi, it doesn't look too bad.


Finally, the same image, scanned in at 4000dpi, and blown up. Not only is the text more legible, but notice how the colors are more true to the original - this is because there is more detail in the image.
